Plogging Kenya, SATO-Lixil and SILAFRICA Partnership to Implement A Community Sanitation & Hygiene Program

We are proud to announce that we have partnered with SATO-Lixil and SILAFRICA to implement a Community Sanitation &Hygiene Program.

This program intends to provide Safe Toilets (SATO) to communities (Urban &Rural) and schools that have the mainstream pit latrines. The SATOs are deigned in a way that they are easy to clean, smell-free, prevents flies from getting in and out of the latrines thus eliminating vector-bone diseases. They also provide a basic safety measure from the risk of falling inside of the pit latrine especially by children.

We have already done a pilot installation 0f the SATOs in two schools in Kiambu County (Gicharani Pri School-Kikuyu Constituency and Githima Pri School in Githunguri). Data collection is carried out before the installation to assess the status of the pit latrines and Monitoring and Evaluation done later on the impact of the SATOs to the communities.

This program will help us contribute to the achievement of the Global Sustainable Development Goal SDG-6 (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) to achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women girls and those in vulnerable situations and also support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management by the year 2030.

We are seeking for more partners and funds to roll out this program to the communities in all the 47 Counties in Kenya that are in dire need of these SATOs to help improve Sanitation and Hygiene in these areas.
